When yu format the HDD using the format in the command prompt....it does not rewrite the MBR. If using 98 or ME use fdisk /mbr....in XP use fixmbr.
So if you are trying to format without disturbing the mbr just format and you have no worries

I assume you came accross this thread via a search engine. Unfortunately the thread is two and a half years old. I think we can take for granted that the original poster has either solved the problem or thrown their computer out the window. Bumping old threads is frowned upon at cboard.
