$300 for an SSD is a lot. What size are you recommending here?
    O_o

That was actually just me being silly and including all storage in the price of SSD. I was more thinking smaller SSD (120/250 GiB) and a massive HDD (2TiB).

I found that a lot of times, it's cheaper to buy a fast desktop AND a light an portable laptop, than an equally fast (as the desktop) laptop.

So I would only get a fast (and heavy, and low battery life) laptop if you have no room for a desktop (eg. in a dorm), or absolutely need to play games on the go (that may change soon with "cloud gaming", if you have good internet connection on the go, eg. at a university).

    Ah, right. Makes sense.

I find you have been on a nitpicking mood lately, showing disagreement on issues I can't quite understand why since your opinions end up reflecting mine. If you want you can hang on expressions like "real man computer" and try take them at face value. It's all the same to me, although I think it's a waste of your or anyone else's time not to understand it's a simple lively remark which shouldn't be taken seriously. And for sure I can write long posts with large paragraphs disclaiming anything I can think of, just to cover all bases, because that fella phantomotap doesn't seem to want to think what other people mean by their remarks unless they explicitly say it.

Anyways I think I was very clear on my post on the advantages of desktop computers. I think that answered your question on why should one buy a desktop even if the premium on a laptop is affordable. It's you who misunderstood my post and asked me something I had already answered. In short, performance/price relation and the ability to easily upgrade or change components. Not just GPUs naturally.

    What?

Wow. So you really just absolutely didn't even attempt to understand my post.

    That is lovely.

Let me spell it out for you: in my opinion, if you can afford the premium of a laptop, buying a desktop first just to have one is a waste of space/time/money.

So, if the budget was a few hundred more, I wouldn't recommend a desktop for any reason.

    [Edit]
Just on the "off chance", I'm talking a personal computer.

Sure, if you can afford to build a "pixel collider"/"cold store" you should absolutely go for it.
    [/Edit]

That said, if my opinion is a reflection of yours, I do apologize for grossly misreading.
