I haven't seen any distro replicate Aero Peek, though, for example.

Dashboard functionality of KDE comes to mind. (Ctrl-F12)

Most distros don't fold applications into icons on taskbar (aka Windows 7 style).

Icon only task manager available as an option in KDE.

Some do not even have search functionality on start menu.

Modern versions of KDE, Gnome , Unity..etc all have search. (for kde, windows 7 like and for the other two windows 8 like)

I only mention KDE because that is what I've been using for a few years.
But I'm sure any DE/WM with a sizeable userbase has those as some sort of option, application or plugin.

Well, KDE certainly "sounds" nice if has those features, but I'm sure there will be lots of stuff I'll complain about anyway. But, I guess I can try it when I have to use a Linux distro next. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

Sometimes I just have to use those pesky things. But it's not out of love. You are right about that.

When did you start using Windows? I thought that you had a Mac?

The Mac was kindly offered at me, when on scholarship in Switzerland.
I had windows, from the first time I intered DIT.

By the way, I am done with this thread, so if admins want to close it, it's ok.
