    Ubuntu Touch

    After having so much frustration with Android and abandoning of alternatives like MeeGo, there is a new hope.

    A new Ubuntu distro named Touch has been created by Canonical:Ubuntu for phones | Ubuntu
    It is now being tried on different devices: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices.

    I really like to support it as a replacement for currently used mobile OSs. It needs Devs to try to port it to different devices.

    No doubt Android is better than symbian or maybe Windows mobile. But not being able to run native Linux Apps was a real frustration.

    So far mobile OSes were being like a cage. Not flexible at all. They just gave you the option to change something not freedom to do so.

    most, if not all, mobile OSs are made for typical (stupid) users. the intent is to actively prevent them from screwing things up too badly, and thereby reduce the cost of providing support. yes, there are users who wish to have more options, and there are ways for those users to do what they want, but usually at the expense of voiding a warranty.
    Code:
    namespace life
    {
        const bool change = true;
    }

    It only relates to UI.

    I don't understand what you mean. when you root an android phone, you have full access to the whole system, including the UI, the kernel, and everything in between.
    Code:
    namespace life
    {
        const bool change = true;
    }

    Sorry. What I meant was limiting normal users is being done by creating a UI that doesn't give anyone the ability to change fundamental settings. You don't have to limit the OS itself.

    IMO, you are barking up the wrong tree with the problems with android. But the biggest problems I see:
    - No multitasking. Some manufacturers allow you to open two apps side-by-side, but it's pretty poor at best.
    - Closing down programs automatically when running out of memory. The problem is somewhat alleviated with newer devices since they have so much memory, but still.
    - The apps themselves. Most are just written for phones, look awful or just plain suck. The good and productive programs don't exist. There is no good office editor still, and something to open something as simple as Access still does not exist. Browsing youtube and twitch and stuff is horrible; usually they'd solve it with their apps, but they're broken in many ways, too.

    The last point is really the problem with android. I can't stand them. Android phones/tablets are just useless in pretty much everything.
    Dunno how much Ubuntu will change, but at least it looks great.
