Planning on taking "Computer Science" for my major, wondering about any advice on classes or languages I should learn?
Thanks everybody for helping me learn some of the fundamentals, your help made it so much easier...
Thanks

Learn "How to program" my friend, that is the most important thing you can do. Problem solving to the extreme of individual steps, this is truly the "art" of programming. Pick a language and learn how to do everything in that language; programming paradigms and implementations change, however the ability to change "human problems" into concrete steps for a generalized solution has always stayed the same. This 'ability' is the essence of computer science and what you need to learn.
So, pick a language and then learn how to solve all problems with that language. It doesn't matter what language you decide to go with(for a personal note, something along lower level such as C or C++ may benefit you more), in the long wrong it doesn't really matter; simply learn how to program.
I took most of Joel Spolsky's Advice for Computer Science College Students. Ironically, the piece of his advice that I did not take was the one he advised was something that should be done "no matter what you do" :)Quote:
