Can you ID this SATA connector?

    Hi All,

Exactly what kind of SATA interface is this (see picture)?

It's a Toshiba HD pulled from a HP laptop (Toshiba P/N nicely hidden by a HP sticker), and I'm trying to find some kind of "X"ATA-to-USB interface to try to pull the data off it.

The only drives I'm familiar with are those with two rows of pins in rectangular connectors, so this "bladed" thing has me flummoxed!

I've already bought two such adapters (obviously the wrong kind)

There's no shortage of keywords to look for (Mini, Micro, Slimline, Standard). At the moment, the only interface I can get to is PITA.

    Thanks,

I will not lie. I only looked at that for like two seconds, but it looks suspiciously like the crappy plastic adapters HP and Compaq use to disguise their kit as being unique so that they can up-charge for out of warranty repairs. I've seen the same crap in tons of Apple and Sony products.

Have you looked over the drive and the relevant caddy to make sure that isn't what this is? It looks like something simply sitting on the SATA interface you want where you could just use any USB2SATA handy.

I agree with phantomotap, looks like there is an adapter on there. See if you can get anything to come off with a little light tugging. I also have a Toshiba hdd in my HP laptop and I had an adapter connected to it.

    Bloody AWESOME - Thanks phantomotap

Crappy plastic thing comes away and there's a regular SATA connector I can plug my existing kit into.

    ^_^

You should see the crap Best Buy had made to complicate their "VPR Matrix" line of merchandise.

Salem... you should keep that "crappy plastic thing", just in case you encounter another HP machine....
