    Infinite Mario Bros competition

Slashdot Games Story | IEEE Introduces Mario Level-Generation Competition

Did anyone do this last year or plan on doing it this year?

I don't know Java, but I would've learned it to do this competition if I could actually get the game to work on a comp. I was running Windows the last time I heard about this and I couldn't get the game to run properly with the latest version of Java. Now, on linux, the game doesn't even show up in the browser (with Java installed, of course).

Hmm I'm no java expert, but I might join. But it lacks quite some information. Are there any prizes? I can't find information about that. Also, it doesn't say whether it can save states throughout levels. For instance, so that you can make the difficulty go up or down depending on how good the player is doing.
I mean, it's judged on the "most fun" level generator. What is "fun"? It's usually a difficulty that is challenging yet not impossible. That is fairly player dependent...

Though the applet worked for me on ubuntu. I unzipped it, cd'd to "classes" and typed "java dk.itu.mario.engine.Play"

    I did not approve this

Ahh, stop whining! Last year they made you an AI. If it wasn't for them, you would still lack any form of intelligence.

Wait! AIs are a form of intelligence?

But yeah. I agree. I'm really dumb. I go well with the people who play me.

You do realize it was a joke, right, not an offence? I mean, you take the level generation to be about yourself, so I write about the contest of writing an AI for Mario of last year about you.
I mean, maybe your AI hasn't been programmed to understand humour .

    Just saying ;-).

Yes. I did realize it was a joke.
I just have a nasty distaste for the Mario games and particularly Nintendo (as it is today), which allows me to say things that I shouldn't otherwise. I'm a hateboy, as opposed to a fanboy.

Why Java? Ick. If C++ or even C# was allowed I'd definitely try to compete.

Infinite Mario Bros! didn't work. Says to 'click to play' and press 's' etc. nothing works. It at least loads in the browser on Windoze.

I played around with the Java code last year, but I didn't formally enter the competition. The code was a pain to get working correctly, but I eventually was able to do so.

I have thought about entering this year's contest, but as of yet have not checked out the rules, etc.
