Is the academic version of Microsoft Visual Studio actually the same thing as the Professional version just sold at a discount?
I'm asking because I ordered the Pro 2008 version online but I just read the email confirming the shipment from the reseller and it says I must be a student, I thought the academic version would say as much on the packaging!
I sure wish the website would have made it clear before they shipped it!

As far as I can tell, the Academic version is exactly the same set of software, just with a different label on the outside of the box. There MAY be a clause in the license agreement that says something like "If you have the academic license, you must not produce software for commercial purposes".
You should be able to tell if you are buying the "proper" Pro version or the Academic one from the price, as my quick search found the academic version for about $100, and the pro version at $500+ - if you are paying less than (say) $300, then it's almost certainly the academic version.

Yeah, the reason I thought I was getting the Pro version is the price tag of $538. I am already sending it back!
