    Windows 98 Desktop menu

    Hello,
My windows desktop "start menu" used to be a silver grey blueish
colour. I was doing some cleanup, and must have clicked on the wrong
thing, and now my menus are a green colour.

How can I get my original colours back? I can hardly see the black text
    on the green background.

    Thank you.

Depends on what you did. Most likely you just changed the color scheme.

Right click on your desktop > Click 'Properties' > Go to the 'Appearance' tab > from the drop-down labeled 'Scheme,' select "Windows Standard" > Go to the 'Settings' tab > ensure that Colors is set to at least "256 Colors," but preferably switch it to "High Color (16-bit)" or "True Color (32-bit)"

If the colors still aren't correct, go to START > Settings > Control Panel > click on 'Accesability Options' > go to the 'Display' tab > ensure that "Use High Contrast" is not checked.

And everything before XP doesn't require "Activation". i.e. it's easy to pirate (Arrr Matey!)

Surf the web, use E-mail and write documents...
I've got a PII CPU somewhere in my closet. I'm sure it would also make a nice paper weight.

You think anybody would buy my PIII 450MHz system for about $30? That seems to be about the price I see on Ebay.

PIII system for $30!? Can I have a dozen?

My server runs on a PIII (600mhz I think) with 64 or 128MB RAM, 3x250GB harddrives in RAID (Linux's software RAID). Debian Linux, Apache + PHP + MySQL web server for a small company (my family's), SAMBA file server, mail server (postfix + dovecot), print server, FTP server, scan server (used to be our NAT + firewall, too). Working great! Haven't rebooted in a few months (I think that's when I did a kernel upgrade).

Now I'm thinking about overclocking it...

I run a cluster of 16 x PII-233's. Although they are reaching their limit of use except as suplimentary heating in the winter. Altogether they barely have the throughput of a P4-HT 3.2GHz. They do a damned good job of keeping the house warm though. The extra crunching power is a nice bonus to its primary use as an HVAC unit

Seems kind of inefficient for what would be a 1000-1500W heater (with the power supply heat added). The CPUs themselves would only generate about 500W of heat.

This little guy generates all of that at the size of about two power supplies side-by-side.

    A dozen for $30 or a dozen for 12 x $30?

Mine is a PIII 450MHz with 384MB RAM, 80GB HD & 13GB HD (both very noisy). If you were in Toronto and wanted to haul it out of here, it's yours for $30.
I should have sold it a long time ago when it might be worth more.
