    RAM upgrade

I want to install additional RAM in my Compaq Presario SR1820NX box. Unfortunately, I'm hardware challenged and am not sure if this RAM is compatible with my computer. I plan on purchasing the RAM from Tiger Direct. But their memory configurator does not list this RAM for the SR1820NX box. It did list other Corsair RAM options. So, I went to the manufacturer's site, Corsair and checked the memory configurator on their site. Their configurator did not show a listing for the SR1820NX at all. So, my question is:

Is the following RAM compatible with my Presario?

    Corsair Value Select Dual Channel 2048MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB)
    Memory Size: 2 x 1024MB
    Memory Speed: 400MHz PC3200
    Memory CAS Latency: 3
    Memory Type: Dual Channel DDR
    Pins: 184
I retrieved the following info on the SR1820NX Presario from the Compaq site:

    Base processor
    Athlon 64 (V) 3400+ 2.2 GHz
    1600 MT/s (mega transfers/second)
    Socket 939
    Chipset
    GeForce 6150 LE
    Motherboard
    Manufacturer: Asus
    Motherboard Name: A8N-LA
    HP/Compaq motherboard name: Nagami-GL8E
    Memory
    Component Attributes
    Memory Installed 512 MB (2 x 256)
Maximum allowed 4 GB* (4 x 1 GB) requires the replacement of the installed 256 MB DIMMs

*Actual available memory may be less
    Speed supported PC-3200 MB/sec
    Type 184 pin, DDR SDRAM
    DIMM slots Four
    Open DIMM slots Two
And PC Wizard provides the following info for the computer:

Error Detection Method : 64-bit ECC
    Error Correction Capability : None
    Current/Supported Interleave : 1-way/1-way
Most of the above info is totally meaningless to me. So, what I'm looking for is some assurance that this 2Gig of Corsair RAM will be compatible with my computer.

    TIA

Yes, they are compatible (both DDR-400).

That's fine. Besides the type of RAM (DDR) and the rating (400MHz), in your case you'll also have to make sure the RAM is Non-ECC. If you're going to choose the RAM you listed, then you're fine... but if you still plan to shop around for better deals, make sure of the above.

You probably won't find any ECC DDR RAM for anything less than a few kidneys, though.

You are probably right - but it's better to know what is wrong, even if it's unlikely...
