My new laptop came with Vista. I'm going back to XP. Eye candy does not outweigh bad compatibility. Much the same way I went back to XP from XP-64. Just no compatibility...

Let's not be premature.
Windows 7 will be an evolution of Vista, if I'm not mistaken. However, the requirements for everything was also supposed to drop, again if I'm not mistaken.
So that means for the same requirements, it runs faster then Vista.
Let's just wait and judge when it comes out.

And I'm sure it will support keyboard & mice.

It means it will build upon the codebase of Vista.
Evolution -> growing, becoming better (although if it's better can be debatable).
It's not a revolution (something new, unprecendented).

I think you are talking about Microsoft Surface. I don't think it will be useful for me though. I like to use keyboards and mice.

Not in the mood to go searching for the link but Windows 7 is supposed to have the whole touchscreen deal like the Surface has. There has been at least one video on Windows 7 showing this functionality.

I'll stick to my mouse and keyboard for now too. Typing on a touch surface doesn't work for me as there is no definition to the keys (granted the touch surface is my iPod touch which is tiny compared to a keyboard)

There is a reason keyboards are seperate from monitors. While touchscreens are useful in factories, and supermarkets, they are not so useful in an office or for playing games. Personally I liek to eat hot wings while I play, not somethign that woudl work well with a touch screen. Not to mention surfing porn sites with a touchscreen

All in all, its great that touchscreens will be supported natively, something that until now usually required an aftermarket driver, but I doubt people will be flocking in droves to buy touchscreens.

I do agree. Microsoft Surface and touchscreens seem cool, but we don't have to sacrifice mice and keyboards. Maybe we'll get used to it, maybe not. But it would be cool to try anyway.

Touchscreen on-screen keyboards are awfully uncomfortable. You don't feel anything under your fingers and writing without watching the key images is practically impossible.

Microsoft Surface does look cool, however. I'll be reserving judgment until I actually test one.
