    Speed up Unreal 3.0

    Hello,

As most of you know the frame-rates produced by the unreal engine are pretty poor. Basically my friend bought Vegas 2 (on Unreal 3.x) while his computer is -- let's say 'underpowered'. What would be the best way to speed up the framerate at any cost? Is there any way to disable lighting? Perhaps a DX wrapper? Looking to gain about 10 fps. Without resorting to 340x280 res

There are very little docs on speeding it up, HDR is useless to him other than terrible lag. Research only shows people with the Xbox360 are getting the same problem. I've found some D3D hooking ideas, but I have no idea how Unreal does lighting? So disabling it that way wouldn't really help me. Is there any way to get it to render like it does in the UnrealEd (map editor)? Plain -- texured, decals, no lighting, etc? I've gathered lighting is the biggest drain on FPS.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Are the lighting effects not configurable in UT3? In 2004 i remember there were quite a lot of performance configuration options. I dunno, maybe they want to force people to use HDR as not using it might give people an advantage.

Hardly any in Vegas 2, I know they're there somewhere -- but where? I've searched through the configs to no avail.

Basically, I'd like to disable lights (& shadows) then I'd be happy

I reakon that's the case, however he doesn't play online -- only with me/single-player.

Perhaps I'll have to search in more detail. But I'm certainly not trying to cheat.

I found http://www.tweakguides.com/UT3_7.html which seems to be able to help.

Thanks for putting me back on track -- perhaps I was looking for a solution too deluxe
However, I'm yet to test, Vegas 2 might disable a lot of the options to provide a 'fair' playing field? Hardly fair if you've got 10FPS and the enemy has 90FPS.

You might want to give this a try too: Link.

Worked for me to a degree. I think you might need to add that section ("SystemSettings") to the ini yourself though.
