Computer Science : Business or Law

    Hi there,

I am now in the third year of college pursuing a computer science degree. With the way things are nowadays I am definitely considering graduate school to get an edge. People have told me that an MBA is an excellent addition to a Comp Sci degree. I have been thinking about the propects of Computer Law ( Technology, Internet ) esp nowadays.

I decided id ask the people in here, since many members have a lot of experience in my field. So what are your opinions as to which would be the best addition to my undergrad degree ?

    Thanks

It depends on what you want to do?

This is kind of a silly question. If you want to be a lawyer (IP or patent law, especially with that CS degree), go to law school. If you want to be a business man, get your MBA.

Actually maybe i framed my question incorrectly. I know for business school one doesnt need a undergrad in business, but I couldnt find an exact answer for law. Also i couldnt find a lot of colleges that explicitly offer computer law, so is there some other category to look into

Most professional schools (IE Med School, Law School, Buisness School) don't require a particular undergrad degree. However having a certain degree increases your chance of getting accepted.

but I couldnt find an exact answer for law

There's no such thing as "computer law", as far as I know. Patent law and Intellectual Property Law are the closest things I can think of. When I was looking at law schools they said that my degree (Computer Engineering) made me stand out from the masses of Poli Sci applicants, so a CS degree should be similar.

edit: Rereading this I see it comes off a little more harsh than I intended. I guess you need to be more clear what you mean by "computer law". Like I said, IP and patent law are both popular and lucrative options. If you meant laws dealing with hacking and stuff like that, I don't know of any schools that offer it as a focus. That definitely doesn't mean there aren't, though.

I agree with Cheez. If you're using money to guide you in what you will do for the rest of your life - I pity you, really, I do. Do what feels right - follow your dream man.
