If Windows dosen't start or function properly because of missing or corrupted system files, how can I repaire Windows without formatting the disk and reinstalling the package?

Put the disk in and reboot; try the repair option

fdisk should do the trick.
Just go to Start->run input "fdisk".
Or
Start->run input "cmd" and then type fdisk there.
EDIT:
oops, I mis-read the post. Trying the repair option on the windows cd should do it, although it may not.

Ignore axon. Simply do the repair or just reinstall windows (without format). This will overwrite your system files, leaving everything else in place.
Thanks to axon I will be having nightmares like Bill Gates chasing after me with huge BUGS in his hands!... Just kidding.

Go to recovery console, type fixboot, voila.
I've converted my system to Gentoo Linux only - about half a year ago. Once you've setup everything to your liking it's a fine system. The only problem is that bringing the system into a usable shape requires a lot of time and lecture (RTFM...).Originally posted by -=SoKrA=-

Once you are set and done with the system, you also need to learn how to use *nix' strange "auto"-build system or find an IDE that actually works. Thats another month
Anyway, although I'm really satisfied with my system now I wouldn't recommend anybody to switch to Linux unless he has a lot of free time to invest into his system. Or a second PC. That's of course always a good place to install Linux.

Linux does take a long time to get it how you want it. It kicks ass though afterwards.

I found that it took 2-3 days to get Gentoo up and running with KDE and OpenOffice, going from stage 2.

Arch Linux is really nice. I had it going with OpenBox and all the fixings in a weekend.
