edit: Mozilla or Firefox don't need IE, they don't use anything from it at all. It's not like a lot of "browsers" that are really just another frontend for IE....

I have used both Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox on Windows XP and in fact Mozilla Firefox is my default browser on Windows (as well as on Linux). I'd recommend you to try Firefox first.
