Well I guess how effectively you want the Earth destroyed. The heat wave from the hydrogen bomb is huge. Quite enough to kill lots amd lots of people. 500 would turn the world into a barren wasteland...
Also with the sheer power of the hydrogen bomb, 500 of them would not be necessary.
My friend and I are pretty sure the world will just tip over and we'll all fall skywards until we can't breathe...
