Go have a look at SDL and dont give up, i'd recomend you set yourself a goal to make a pong game.. you'll learn alot from the experience if you just stick in at it until its finished.

I think what your trying to say is your filesystem is mounted read-only and you want to mount it read-write. try
mount / -o remount,rw

I would recomend it, makes it easier on the eyes.
Check to see if /dev/psaux is setup and working for your mouse. Try cat /dev/psaux then move your mouse are abit, if you see some gobble-di-gook then it works.
Also try /dev/psmouse
