Has anyone here ever have to taken this test? I have to for a possible job...
I know and can find nothing about it, but I'm told a lot of programmers have to take it in order to receive job offers.
If anyone can point me in the right direction for practice tests I'd forever be appreciateve.
I am very entry level.
I believe the test I am taking is by EEI, but any general test will do.
Don't you think your prospective employer deserves to get an honest assessment of your aptitude?
It's all very well coaching yourself to ace the test, but if you're accepted and then ask on your first day the equivalent of "where's the ON switch", your new employer isn't going to be pleased.
Or they give you a problem to solve which would be easy given your apparent aptitude, but you respond with "Huh?", or worse, merely come back asking us to do your job.

They're a rich source of ideas for problems to solve.
I've always wondered, though, what jobs really test you on, mainly if you're out of college. I was interviewing people and they saw that I had C++ and Java experience, but I wonder what KIND of experience they are looking for, just the language and standard librarie knowledge, and object orientation, or specific stuff like platform development and utilizing different libraries.
The actual language tests are usually pretty simple for anyone with several years of C experience, but would cause all sorts of problems for someone who'd only read a few books.
What employers are also looking out for would include:
- what is your general approach to problem solving and program development.
If you lack any kind of method, your chances are slim.
- what sort of personality you have, will you fit in with the rest of the team.
You may be the world's best programmer, but if that comes with an attitude you won't be getting the job.
Perhaps they try to bombard you with numerous problems you must respond to at once, hence the "battery". This way not only will the *amount* of problems you solve be indicative, but also the way in which you choose which to solve when, i.e. prioritization... just a guess though.Quote:

I took the OP's meaning to be "do you have specific questions known to be on that test and what are the answers". No actual knowledge required, just a good associative memory for questions and answers.
One day "Master Googler" will be the number one skill employers look for, due to future Google being able to transmit skills directly to your brain.
True story.
Or everyone will be able to learn any skill "matrix style" just by plugging their borg implant directly into the net. Unless they're already WiFi connected, in which case it will appear like magic.

I'd also bet a lot of people here would be out of a job, what's the use for programmers when computers will have AI that could do everything. Boycott the AI programmers I say, while you still can!

Where are these "Homework questions" on this board? Pardon my ignorance, just not familiar with it yet.
Homework questions are frequent on the forum, where someone posts a task designed to teach programming, and more less expects the forum to supply all the code (without major bugs) to the original poster, thus avoiding the thinking/learning required to produce the code in the first place.
Most of them do not appreciate that we are actually trying to help them by NOT answering with a complete direct answer to their request.

The ironic thing is, I'm not a programmer. I'm a network guy with a degree in Marketing. Hence, should be a BUSINESS Systems Analyst, not Systems Analyst. I had one Java class in college. I only have to take this test because of the title they are giving me - hence why I'm freaking out a bit.

Well, if you're not a programmer, scratch the ACM, they are algorithmical "competition" programs that would require a pretty extensive degree of understanding in programming and that sort of thing.
I mean, you shouldn't be taking the test, let a programmer take it.
They keep telling me I should have no problem with this with my education and experience, but from what I'm hearing, that's not true. For instance, what does having a Marketing Degree and 7 IT certs have to do with a PROGRAMMING test?Quote:

A quick search in google seems to indicate that this test doesn't actually test your current ability to program, but rather your aptitude to learn programming. I may have it wrong, but that is what it seems to me. Of course, the ability to learn something and the ability to do something are quite different.

Are you entirely sure you're applying for the right job?
Because from your most recent admission, you've never done any C or C++, and only a smattering of Java. If this job in any way involves you getting your hands dirty in the code, you will be hopelessly lost.
Unless you're looking to retrain as a programmer and they're willing to take you all the way from "noob" status.
ISTR these aptitude tests have little to do with actual programming, and more along the lines of
"What's the next number in this series"
"1 3 5 7 9 x"
Then some multiple choice answer.
Then some tougher questions towards the end.
Some of the tests are designed not to be finished unless you're a real wizard, just so that they can get a nice profile across the board.
Based on
a) how many you attempted
b) how many you got right
they'll figure out if you've got "the right stuff" for becoming a programmer.
Accumulating a few sample C or C++ programs between now and the test isn't going to help you IMO. Just show up with what you know, and take your shot.
Has anyone ever had to take the Computer Aptitude Test by ExpertRating.com or the CPAB Test via CreativeOrgDesign.com?
I have some sample questions from them, is it OK to post in the HOMEWORK section of the site or post them here?

Why not recommend the job to a programmer.

This job will have about 1% programming in it. I only have to take this test because of the job title. I was originally hired as a BSA, now they are switching it to SA b/c of an IT re-org. Long story. Hence my problem.
I'd have to mail them to you if anyone is interested. I take this test tomorrow at 930am :(
There are certainly a lot I don't get.

Logically it looks to be A) 256, but then that doesn't fit with the 324?? :(
