Networking
I have a network I'm trying to build.
I have a lynksys router connected to a qwest gateway.
I'm trying to network a printer.
Code:
[modem/gateway]
/ | \
/ | \
[router] [pc] [pc]
/ \
/ \
[printer] [pc]
How do I set up the routing so that all pcs recognize the printer?
I think I should set up two static ip addresses.
One to the rounter then another to the printer.
how would i get the subnet of the printer recogonized by the parent network.
If you could give me a few key words to search or some tutorial, i would appreciate it.

To make it more easier to build and to share the printer. Why dont you bring your two system which is connected the qwest router to the Linksys router? Doing that all system come down to a single subnet. Once there are all in a since network you could start sharing the resource within the network.
Or you will have to open some ports at your linksys router, so that if there is any traffic specific to the print server will be router to the printer server which is connected to the linksys router. I dont know the excat port number which need to be opened. Others might help you in that.

Is it a network printer or does the router have a print server?

sorry for the delay, i haven't had a chance to touch this project since last post.
I ended up using a print server that was wireless and made everything else connected to the same subnet. thanks for the info on the port forwarding. I will remember that next time.
