Wow, that's like saying you like food, so suggest something good to eat. Give an example of things that you like about anime and I'll be happy to suggest some shows that I think you would enjoy.
so am i =DQuote:

Remember that there are all types of anime and it's not just for kids. Do a little homework before you watch a random show.
The only anime worth watching is Dragonball Z. Teehee.
I definitely would recommend Cowboy Bebop if not just for the absolutely amazing sound track. Love Hina's a good series and the mangas are quite humerous. If you're in to completely random nonsense I'd vouch for Excel Saga also.
Garfield and Friends - good ideas
The Simpsons - even more good ideas
My favorites (in no particular order)[*]Monster
- Cowboy Bebop
- Rahxephon
- Escaflowne
- 12 Kingdoms
- Now and Then, Here and There
- Ghost in the Shell:Stand alone Comples (specifically 2nd gig)
- Haibane Renmei
- Requiem from the Darkness
- Berserk
- Argento Soma
- Texhnolyze
- Victorian Romance Emma :D
- Mushishi
read the reviews on my anime list http://www.animenfo.com/myanimedb.php?userid=3730
There are more not on the list for some reason, if I find them I'll post my reviews.
What can I say, you flipped my switch
My favourite animes, in decreasing order.
- Naruto (episodes 1-135)
- One Piece
- Rurouni Kenshin
- Love Hina
- Full Metal Alchemist
- Great Teacher Onizuka
- Escaflowne
- Monster
- Cowboy Bebop
- Detective Conan
- School Rumble
- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
oh, thanks for the list, indigo0086. i'll try to watch them all.
Prelude, i agree, i didn't describe what i wanted exactly. That's because i've just discovered how big anime world really is and i really don't know what i want/like. So far the best things i've seen are `ghost in the shell`, `death note` (3 eps), ohh, and ranma 1/2 is pretty good. Right now i'll watch anything, so just suggest something you like best.
...I didn't put monster on the list...
*jumps off building*
although a manga to anime adaptation it is one of the most compelling stories I've ever seen animated. No one holds a candle to Monster cliffhangers, appropriately named.
I see no "The simpsons" in the last two lists!!!
Do you even know, how many quotes of Homer Simpson there are in Cboard? :D
The simpsons isn't anime, while it is one of the greatest works of animation in history (american or otherwise), it isn't what is generally accepted as anime.
anime is, well, japanese stuff.Quote:

Although I'm going to break the rules a bit, but not by much considering Korea has a huge hand in animating a lot of so called Japanese animation, is a Movie called Wonderful Days. It's a beautiful Korean Animated, Directed, and Produced Sci-Fi movie. It's probably the biggest self-credited Animated work that has come from Korea and it's worth it's weight in gold. It's pretty rare to find, but if you're in europe, or import, the dvd is available over there.
yes! i've heard really great things about it! and i have it on my hard drive right now =)
ohh, and i also heard gungrave is pretty good..
Offtopic, but...
My favourite American Cartoons!
- Silverhawks
- Transformers
- Mask
- Centurions
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original series)
- Spiderman
- Batman: The Animated Series
- Animaniacs
- Tiny Toons
- The Simpsons
Yeah, a lot of them are from the 80s and early 90s.
For some reason modern cartoon animation in the USA isn't as attractive as anime anymore.
My favorites:
1. Agent Aika
2. Najica Blitz Tactics
3. Ikki Tousen AKA Battle Vixens
4. FLCL AKA Furi Kuri or Fooly Cooly
5. Tenjho Tenge
Dante, how could you forget futurama ? =)
I still only like The Simpsons and Garfield and Friends.
Regretably, I've only watched 1 episode. :pQuote:

it's a vim command to save and quit
Full movies worth watching:
Ghost in the shell
Appleseed
Pat Labor ( 1 or 2 )
Jin Ro
Princess Mononoke
Perfect Blue
"Steam Boy" and "Wonderful Days" are both on my shelf waiting for a rainy day.
>So far the best things i've seen are `ghost in the shell`, `death note` (3 eps), ohh, and ranma 1/2 is pretty good.
GITS is good, Ranma annoyed me after a while, and Death Note so far is fab. If you like the anime you should read the manga as well.
Let's see, recommendations. Since you like Ranma, I'd say Tenshi na Konamaiki. The art is funky, but I tolerated it and found a really good series. Bleach is good, but the voice acting in the recently started English dub SUCKS! If you can get a hold of the Japanese version, do so. I always recommend Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu because it's just plain good, and if you like that then you'll probably like Shuffle!. If you like mystery/horror (somewhat like Death Note), Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is good. I'm a fan of Outlaw Star, but it's kind of hit or miss, and Cowboy Bebop is good. One that a lot of people miss out on that turned out to be pretty entertaining is Dragon Drive. Be on the lookout for Utawarerumono in English (I think the name is something like Shadow Warrior Chronicles ) because it's very good. I was thrilled and dismayed to hear that it was licensed because the story was just starting to really take off in the fansubs. Inuyasha is a story by the same person who did Ranma, you might like it. I'll mention more as the come to mind, I'm not thinking anime right now so I probably missed several great ones. ;)
Nerds.
exellent suggestion, Prelude. i'll watch what i can get :)
Just as a side note. Most of the stuff I recommend can be found on animesuki.com. If not, then it's been licensed and you need to pay.
Do you speak Japanese, Prelude ?
>Do you speak Japanese, Prelude ?
A little.
Otaku.
My Dad's got this friend who says he knows a little ancient Greek, by which he means that he knows enough to read the Illiad and Oddesy, in Homer's tongue, so how much is a little, Prelude, and how's that progressive story going on :p
Just enough to know how to answer that question so that I can maintain a proper level of etiquette while still avoiding the usual requests to "say something in Japanese". ;)Quote:

Gilgamesh is another must. I did a double take with that anime. When I first watched a few episodes I dismissed it because it looked wierd, then whne I came back a second time I marathoned like 22 episodes in one day. It's a great anime, disturbing towards the end though.
>> You'll see in the next installment. :p
Looking forward to it :D Any chance I could get a copy of the last few installments? I think I've lost track of them.
I like Hentai... :)
This can't go anywhere but down...Quote:

I'm sorry, what are you talking about?
Watch Lupin the Third.
You'll have to figure that out yourself, citizen. It's anime related though.
anime confuses me =\
Same. That's why I watch Hentai! :D You might want to watch some, if your over 18 (even though I'm 16) :)
anime is silly
Calling people nerds while you use linux and program... that is just wrong on so many levels.
Then again if you mean nerd as in the revenge of the nerds sorta way, then right on!
I watch Bleach religously with my girlfriend. Thursday afternoons I make sure that I get off on time and down load the new episode as soon as I can.
I'd watch bleach but my parent wont let me dl anymore vids till we get a new isp without data transfer limits
These titles are good:
1) Generator Gawl
2) Project Arms
3) Armitage
4) Berserk
5) Black Heaven
6) The Count of Monte Cristo (no, you haven't seen THIS one)
7) Desert Punk
8) Devil Lady
9) Elfen Lied (EXTREME blood/guts)
10) Gantz (EVEN MORE EXTREME blood/guts)
11) Neon Genesis Evangelion
12) The Vision of Escaflowne (series is better than the movie)
13) Full Metal Panic (there's at least 2 series of this and another one coming)
14) etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc
These hentai titles seem pretty popular:
1) Bondage Game
2) Stepmother's Sin
3) Bible Black (4 volumes)
4) Anyone You Can Do... I Can Do Better
5) Oni Tensei
6) Crimson Climax
I work in an anime store. It was my first exposure to anime, and I was hooked. I don't generally watch hentai (I liked the plot in Oni Tensei though), but I like the anime.
mw
Bible Black is the best Hentai!!!! I would reccomend it if your into Hentai.
I like Bleach, Chobits, and Ghost in the Shell. There are so many ideas that could made from Ghost in the Shell. They already have that active camouflage at Tachi Labs. Chobits is...damn I want a perusakon.
persocom is just a japanese abbreviation of personal computer btw.
And I love Ghost in the Shell. I like the Oshii versions but they can't hold a candle to the epic Stand Alone Complex: 2nd gig (to which I still haven't watched the last two dvds)
I like that one anime with the cat-bus.
Your list is pretty much the same with mine. Well this is my list (not in a particular order. Love 'em all the same)Quote:

- Infinite Ryvius
- etc (too many to list 'em all)
Well, gotta reply on this one. Been an anime addict for err... 5 years I think (I didn't 'bout anime before until one of my friends lent me one). I recommend you watch Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Elfen Lied, Serial Experimental Lain, and Infinite Ryvius. Then you'll see whether they were silly or not.Quote:

I have no TV channels that would have ever shown any anive movie (I have 50 channels).
We have anime here in Portugal. A few cable channels show anime on a regular basis. Unfortunately there's a bias, at least here, towards childish or sex oriented anime, which invariably makes it be tagged by the population at large as either "japanese cartoons" or "adult cartoons", respectively.
The more serious anime (geared towards more mature audiences if you want) is unfortunately hardly seen. However, it's a long standing japanese tradition only rivaled by Eastern European countries most excellent adult cartoons.
Once and a while, they do show late at night on some obscure channel one of these animes. When I happen to see it, I must say they are beautiful works of movie art.

watched some episodes of naruto and cowboy beebop. didn't like naruto very much too childish i guess for me, but cowboy beebop is pretty cool. ohh, and the artwork in wonderful days is amazing but the plot is pretty standard.
taelmx, what's manga?
maxorator, what's google?
Manga is like a Japanese comic book...
I didn't know about that "define" thing in google.
You sir, have what we call "taste". WHile naruto has some high points, I'd much rather watch Bleach or One piece, both of which are masters of the action anime/mangaQuote:

I would rather watch Bleach, Death Note, or Full Metal Alchemist.
Now Full Metal Alchemist probably has one of the best plots I've ever seen. I also like Ghost in the Shell. They mix the normal episodes that focus on crime and such with a little AI(Tachikoma) things having to do more with "philisophocal" things like conscience and what it means to live.
> things having to do more with "philisophocal" things like conscience and what it means to live.
I hope you don't expect themes like these to be treated seriously on an anime.
Actually, I like how they convey the idea of AI as a lifeform. They have something called a Tachikoma:
http://www.animegalleries.net/albums...chikoma063.jpg
http://individual.utoronto.ca/pang/pix/tachikoma.jpg
They are used by section 9 as a weapon, but they acumulate a lot of knowledge and start acting like humans rather than robots. They even pretend to be robots because they think that "the major"(Motoko Kusanagi) wants them to be more of a tool. The funny thing is that they have machine guns and some kind of missle thing(which kinda looks like their "nose" kinda), but even though they are combat ready, they talk like kids with each other and stuff. They also become "unique".
The two Ghost in the Shell movies have some of the same concepts of live and conscience, but they are portrayed much more seriously. Search youtube for Ghost in the Shell or google a torrent for some of the episodes. You may have to see it to understand it.
Right
you dismiss it but GITS:SAC addresses a lot of social and philosophical ideas. I'm glad he brought up Tachikoma because they fit the theme of the whole Ghost in the Shell universe, which is defining humanity and the human soul beyond the body, which is generally augmnented and improved through cybernetics. The "ghost" is that humanity.
In episodes a person dies and the Tachikoma's wonder why people are sad, since their brains can be kept alive and the person can continue "living" in a cybernetic body. But it is stated that their ghost would still be gone, making them just a walking brain, it's really interesting.
Mind you, what I dismiss is this general concept that a thought or an idea can be perceived as addressing philosophical themes by simply existing. Usually we expect that from thoughts or ideas that somehow can be accompanied with reasoning.
Being that the case, any of us could be a prolific writer on the domain of philosophy by simply addressing some issue lightly and forgetting about all those other things that can overthrown our thoughts as simply... imagination.
I don't dismiss imagination, just the idea that imagination = philosophy.
I said it addressed ideas of philosophy, not creating a philosophy. It has a theme which I addressed, it can be construed as anything, it's subjective like most works of art and entertainment. I don't get hung up on a show because it has a certain theme that's deeper than, "Kaizer hadoken panzer attack!", and I don't get hung up on a show because it's pure comedy and fun. I'm just saying I don't dismiss the show because it has those themes, I like to beleive I'm a little more welcoming than that.
and your dismissal doesn't change the fact that it's a great show.
And that's just fine. My only comment was:

Because the earlier statement went down unanswered by taelmx reply. Or better yet, it furthered my concerns.
> I could point you to some discussions but you'd probably be less interested.
Quite on the contrary. I'm interested on what my daughter sees on TV. Do share.
I have to agree with indigo for philosophical ideas in anime. If you wanted to know about an anime that has a deep philosophical theme, try Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya or Infinite Ryvius. Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya addressed the issue of "what is a God?" or "what is the supreme being?". While Infinite Ryvius is actually a rip-off from Lord of the Flies just the setting was in the future. Well I can't say that there's no imagination in those animes. It's just that imagination is usually necessary to explain philosophy. I mean what would the philosophy be explained in Lord of The Flies if Golding didn't use his imagination?

They've been showing Naruto fillers (anime-only episodes) for more than a year. That's why when I listed Naruto as my favourite anime, I specified episodes 1 to hundred-something only, because those followed the manga and were generally much more interesting.Quote:

In Bleach, it is hard to figure out who is the real villain.
Nobody knows who the main villain of Naruto is yet. We know he's the leader of Akatsuki, but nobody know who his real identity is.
And in Bleach, everybody knows the main villain already - name starts with an A. :p
I don't watch Naruto anymore. Too many episodes to handle. I get bored easily. :)
Neither do I. I just follow the manga now.
