cable modem settings
If I connect to my cable modem to my pc with a patch cable i can access its settings by going to 192.168.100.1. But I can't get to my modem settings if I'm connect though a router. My router settings page is 192.168.0.1 and that works fine but I can't get to 192.168.100.1 to access my modem. Anyone know why? And why can't i ping websites like google.com form the dos prompt?
Thanks for reading.

maybe find out what port it is accessed through and forward it in the router settings

You shouldn't have to change your modem settings very often at all, so I'd not worry about that too much. However, if you can't ping google, you may have other issues. Try setting your modem and router back to default settings (are you trying to hack either to make them do something special?).

Port forwarding sounds like a good idea I'll try that. I'm just trying to learn more about networking not trying to hack or anything. And I just thought that it was odd that i can't ping anything out of my network.

you have the devices on different subnets, the easiest fix (especially if the router is a piece of junk) is to change the routers ip address to 192.168.100.2 and set it's default gateway to 192.168.100.1. Usually routers should route across the subnets, but your router might be to "dinky".

I have a netgear 802.11b router (MR814 v2) do they work well with subnets?

I'm trying get two routers to work with each other. I have the dhcp server on the netgear one and its turned off on the other wireless router a d-link. I can renew an ip if i connect to the d-link with a network cable to it but not if i connect wirelessly. Got any ideas??
