Aren't you the one who is making the amazing 3d shooter?
Is this a side project?
Yeah its a side project.
I figure everyone can play this while I'm developing my 3D game.
Why can't they just find other games to play while they wait for your 3d shooter?
They can.
Is something like this written entirely in glOrtho() mode (or DirectX's equivilent)?
There is no camera at all. It uses ortho but it doesn't have to.
I changed things around a bit. Thought that the asteroids looked more like cow pies than anything.
All thats left now is scoring, creating more level backdrops, hit detection, animation for explosions, and - well a front end.
Of course there will never be this many asteroids on the screen at any time.
I've added some color and fog. The asteroids look too much like flower children but I like the fog.
Is your 3D game going to be a 3D asteroids? If not, maybe as an add-on when you're finished you could make it some kind of extra "mode" to play instead of other ships.
I think they look better in that shot. They kind of looked like walnuts in the first screeny ;)Quote:

Are you going to link to the source.?
No. The source stays with me and those who want to help create the game. This goes for all of my games. I'm very open source but I don't just hand out the code to anyone. This is not because of protection or anything its just because I don't want to A. be criticized for my code and B. be asked all kinds of questions about what this or that does.
It's just easier to only make the source available to those who have helped or taken part in the development of the game.
Sorry.
Ever considered mapping a rocky texture to a deformed shape of some sort, taking some snaps of it rotating and using that for your asteroids? Makes them look slightly more realistic, even if they would all be rotating in the same direction... ;)
Thought of it yes. Going to do it?? Probably not. This is just a quickie game.
