I am hoping to get a new pc to replace this one. Its a new Sony 3.0 GHz pc and i'm trying to decide if I should keep my current OS (Windows Server 2003) or if I should switch to Mac OS X on the new PC. Any and all comments welcome.

topic might as well read "night vs day"
I don't think you'll have much luck installing OS X on your Sony PC. It kinda requires a Mac.
i thought he meant he has a sony now and is getting a new one? But if you meant mac on the sony, its not going to happen.
I once compared Operating Systems to Politics:
Windows - Republican Party
Unix - Democratic Party
Mac - Green Party
Don't throw your vote away... Though it really depends on what exactly you'll be using your computer for... Can you enlighten us, perhaps?
Windows = Communism
Fascism would be more appropriate. Communism in an OS is like mandatory Napster, only more public file deletions.
They are fundementally different. At its core. Windows is a pc and uses a different set of machine instructions than a mac does. It uses more than likely x86 architecture - that's intel's CPU.
Mac uses AMD or motorolla - if i'm correct. each IC. does their calculations a bit different. That is perhaps its most basic. unless of course your considering cherry OS . I suppose that is an alternative.
Many pc vendors design their computers to "work best with windows", though I've never verified if this was true or not.
Well, I'm gonna use the OS for Graphic Design, Watching Anime, Programming/Game Design, 3D Modelling, and any other multimedia I forgot.
Go with Mac, then
i say pc
Mac people say that Mac's graphic quality surpasses PC's. But then PC people say that with the same price to get a Mac, they could get a PC with same graphics quality.
I'd say I have no clue. But I still have the impression that Mac is better for graphic designing and the like. So do your own research.
yea im blinded by my antimac attitude. Try em both man.
Maybe i can dual boot the new computer or something. Give them both a test-drive.
Again. You can't install OS X on a PC, or Windows on a Mac. You'd have to buy one or the other.
OS X on PC or Win XP on Mac by utilizing some sort of emulator probably won't give you accurate performance. I'd probably search for as much as possible unbiased comparison on two platforms on the Internet.
you cant have both, unless your rich.
Actually all I have to do is buy Mac OS X. I have like 3 Windows Versions on CDs and that includes Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.Quote:

your missing the point.
YOU CANNOT PUT A MAC OPERATING SYSTEM ON A REGULAR PC. IT WILL ONLY WORK ON A MAC. YOU CANNOT PUT WINDOWS ON A MAC PC, IT WILL ONLY WORK ON PC.
Better?
Oh i see. You know, I've always been interested in Linux. Maybe I should install Gentoo Stage 3 on the new PC with my DSL connection. I want RedHat, but its discontinued :(.....
it is? i wasnt aware.

Last time I checked, it was closed... Fedora Project was the only thing available than....Quote:

OS-X is based on FreeBSD. The OS-X core, Darwin, can be installed on X86 (although for what purpose, I'm not sure).
I hear that Red Hat 9 was the last version... either way, its too big to download even with DSL. I think I'll just fork over 10 bucks and get it on CD.
fedora core 3 is very nice but i think gentoo is much more rewarding (as long as you can get it working)
Last time I tried installing Gentoo, it was almost impossible. I tried 10 times and each try failed. Their documentation should be more clear. But hey, maybe I'll try again?Quote:

Did you know why it always failed?
Do you know how to make it install this time?
Yeah I figured out what I did wrong last time. I left out a step, to extract the stage tarballs themselves. How much stupider can I get? lol.
[EDIT:]
This is going way out of topic. Somebody closed this topic plz...
