"Magos is an unknown quantity at this point"
What determines this rating (see below the avatar)? I doubt it is the post count cause I've seen people with ~30 posts have the same title as me with 2000+ posts. Just curious, that's all.

Its based off of your reputation.
Below your name, postcount and wheter you're online, there's a links that says "Add to $USER's reputation". The more people that give you a good rating, the more green squares you get.
BTW, does your reputation affect how many reputation poins someone gets when you add to their reputation?
Yes it does. So if someone with a high rep gives someone positive or negitive rep it affects them more then say if Xterria did it.
I have to spread around reputation before giving to Thantos again :(
"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Govtcheez again." :(
any specifics?
How do you get reputation then? By getting good votes on your threads? Ok, new forum game: The one who votes the most 5's on Magos' threads wins! :D
You click on that thing that says "Add to _____'s Reputation"
You can see your last few reputation changes in User CP
Ok....here's the way it works:
Everyone has 2 different numbers involving reputation: Their reputation, and their reputation power.
Everyone starts with a reputation of 10. It changes when people vote for or against you.
What your reputation power is depends on a number of factors. You get one point of reputation power for each of the following:
1. Number of compete years registered
2. 1000 posts
3. 100 points of reputation
4. If your reputation is less than 10, you automatically have a reputation power of 0.
The final few limitations on reputation are intended to prevent people from running up their reputation:
1. Users must have several posts before they can give reputation.
2. You may only give out 10 reportation votes per day.
3. You must give reputation to at least 20 people before you can give it to the same person twice.
I'm sure you'll have quite a change in reputation after this thread, Magos :o
I know this question has been asked before, but I can't find it and I don't remember the anwser :(
Where can you see who added/removed points from your reputation?
I got a negative message: "just because I can :p"
I don't want revenge, nor do I want to to [kelso] burn [/kelso] that person.
I just want to buy him/her a drink, have some nice descent conversations. put him/her in my buddy list, etc...
BTW, if it was Kermi3, I probably had it comming :D
lol i think my rep has gone to 0 already lol
someone gave me a reputation with this message "Not only rude, but rude in an obnoxious way -- obviously you didn't understand the question."
me not understanding the question makes me rude in an obnoxious way? damn man
we the newbies should not try give an opinion :( we gonna get dissed!

EDIT: Oh, 0_o was only 3 characters and you need 4 to post, so I'm adding this edit text...
Even if your usercp says that you were given a reputation vote, it may not have counted. If the person has a reputation point of 0 then your actual repuation was not effected
So what is the point of "repuation power"?
>>4. If your reputation is less than 10, you automatically have a reputation power of 0.
Well that's stupid...I only have 9 points because someone gave me negative for no real reason at all...
Ditto.Quote:

Also people like the admins should have more weight to their votes then regular members.Quote:

I have reduced the reputation required to be able to give reputation to others to 5 rather than 10.
I don't get why someone gave me a negative reputation for this post, but it's grey, so I think it means it didn't count. Woohoo!Quote:

I frequent another forum that used the reputation feature for awhile. People started to think that because the sender didn't show up in the User CP that it was anonymous. It was quite funny when the administrator looked up several overboard ugly comments and called out (and banned) the people who made them.Quote:

The other thing was, after that happened, the admin turned on the feature that shows who sent you the reputation, even those that had been sent before that time. All of a sudden that "anonymous" comment wasn't so anonymous any more. It was good fun.
And finally, the reputation system ended up getting turned off. It wasn't a technical forum, so it might be more useful here, but people ended up competing to get better and better reputation, and nobody really paid attention to what was being talked about.
Good times!
I get points from C++ forum but then lose points even more points in GD forum. So when people in C++ forum see my low reputation, what would they think???
I keep on losing points because someone who disagrees with me decides to take off my reputation points while those who disagree never bother to leave comment. People really have no clue why I have low reputation since they're not able to leave the comments
Negative remark with no comment even more annoying.
If I show you guys in what posts I lose reputation points, you'll see that you really, most of the time, can't take any conclusion out of people's reputation level.
When I was still new in this board, it did not take me a long time who are reliable sources and and who aren't.
As I'm typing this, I'm expecting people to take off my reputation points after reading it, because that's what's been happening to me. This is just so sad if no one could not see apparent flaws in this reputation-thing.
I vote YES to turn off this feature. (Those who disagree with me, leave negative comment to *prove* that I'm right)
I want to, but I think I already have :(Quote:

I surely know that govt will not "become famous in no time" as he is afraid of paparazzi and camera flashes. BTW cheez, WhereTF are the lion trailer pics?
Hey Govt disabling it only turns off the display, people can still leave feedback
some of mine are pretty funny....can you guess who left which comment? hehe ...those who know ( T R K ) should STFU for the moment... :D
wow mine is the opposite of that lol. 1 said
"speak english u goddamn moron" lol thats a good 1.

> "speak english u goddamn moron" lol thats a good 1.
That was me. We speak English here, not AOL.

Did I ask you?
PS Just kidding Thantos I love you :)
On these boards there is no actual penalty for negative reputation. It just shows there as being negative.

I got two negative reputations for asking about more information on the whole reputation thing... and another for saying I didn't really care what happens to the DOS board...
I'll probably get another negative one for 'complaining' about the system...
people = teh suck;
Feel better now major_small?

(people+some jackass)-(thantos+(2others))=teh suck;
whoever gave me bad rep for complaining about the system will get shot in the head

Another time I post another problem and the same person A comes to my rescue. I decides to give reputation, BUT it's not *allowed* (see above quote). Why do I have to give reputation to some other people when I think only person A deserves one??
Just FYI that this is really happening that I only receive answers from at most 10 same people. (You know who they are)
Does the limitation above force me to read other forums (GD etc) and start giving away reputation??
My point is, one these days there will be one thousand and one reasons to disable this reputation feature on this board
this is a good point... I also think that the reputation system should be geared more toward positive reputation, and the amount of negative reputation you can give should be equal to the positive reputation you gave to that person + your (modified) reputation power...
you should definately keep a lower limit, but maybe make in 10 or 15 instead of 20...
