getting rid of grub
well durring the day I have install multiple versions of linux on my very problematic laptop. Finally my compaq quickrestore cds seemed to boot fine, so I reinstalled them, consequently deleting all linux....there is a problem though: GRUB stayed and at reboot I can't seem to pass through it.
it holts at a screen saying:
GRUB>
there are a few commands I can do...but nothing worthwhile. ANy ideas on how to get rid of it? or maybe getting past it.

BTW. I'm booting knoppix again and I'm trying to find the commad mbr -format or something along those lines. I guess making a bootable 98 disk should do the trick as long as it gets me to the command prompt...any other ways?

NTx or 9x? You're on the right track, but they have different methods.
If I remember correctly 2K/XP from the recovory console uses "fixmbr" or something like that. 9x you can do fdisk /mbr

for some reason nothing worked. I've tried everything....so I decided to go linux allthe way.
