other skills to combine software with (i.e a minor)
What are some good skills to have on top of computer programming, something that could be used for a job and something that isn't totally obscure. What I mean is like architecture as well as programming. Getting a minor in computer engineering or electrical engineering also sounds like a good idea (or taking graduate courses perhaps?)

Try getting a minor in a non-computer related field.
There's a lot of companies looking for programmers with a degree in biology, finance, accounting, etc. Since most programmers don't have knowledge in those fields, those who do are more likely to find a job (and get paid more).
