You'll have to be more specific. Do you mean in a game? long-range combat? hand-to-hand combat? or as the only weapon I'll ever have in my life?
Umm if someone had a sword, and I had a gun-Iwould be quite happy to be honest.
The Gun, I love straigth-foward effective technology.
Haven't you guys ever seen Star wars?? The lightsaber (or sword i guess) is much more accurate and for the skilled user.
The sword, like face_master said, the sword usually takes some skill to master.
i.e. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, with the special sword, I forget the name for it.
Although guns have their obvious advantages, I chose the sword because I have found swords to be more fun to use. Rather than simply aiming and shooting, a sword can chop off a head or a limb and is much more fun in close combat.
I like straight-forward stuff myself. I'd prefer a sniper-rifle at long range. No fuss, no workouts/getting worked up. Pure end result. :D

ah, yes... The way the movie made it so that you need to learn to just keep it steady... that is why i prefer swords.Quote:

guns for easy kills...fun(ny) at times...but nothing like having fun sneaking up behind someone with a sword.(in games that is).
- Sword -
Because its more professional :p
I mean, even I can wield a gun and take out a samurai master 10 metres away. (Unless Im really incompetent and/or hammered beyond redemption) But to slice that dude up with a katana in hand requires class and skill.
Wait wait! I withdraw my previous statement about swords. If the gun was a railgun then Id take that! lol! thats a pr0 weapon :p
My idea of the ideal railgun is the one featured in Red Faction where the scope can see through walls. (Gamma vision?) In that case I can take out like 3 targets with one slug if they're collinear... hmm ill shutup now :)
Definitely a sword.
I'm a big fan of anything medieval plus a sword is more of a sign of strength and skill whereas a gun is a symbol of cowardness. Plus swords are bloodier and way more fun.

I have both swords and guns (damn Texan!)...if I were facing a man with a gun, I'd prefer the gun, otherwise, nothing compares to the saber.
That's only in star wars!Quote:

And I choose the gun, because it's much more effective, even if the guy with a sword is a master, unless the guy with the gun is stupid.
Guns run out of bullets, the sword will keep choppin' as long as you have the strength/stamina to use it.
as far as video games go i get quit a kick out of shooting the crap out of other people with guns on the multiplayer. plus guns have the advantage of range, whereas with a sword you have to run all the way up next to them to kill um! so i think i prefer guns although i have nothing much against swords either.
The sword.
More capable of inflicting damage, far less likely for the "noob killing the master by luck" syndrome, far more precise (in skilled hands). It is considerably easier to build defenses against bullets than against sword cuts/thrusts (esp. thrusts). That and in the real world I am reasonably competent with a katana.
Pah, Swords are for 'cool' and '7331' people.
If youre smart you just pick the gun, why be cool with a nice
big sword? The result is the same, The gun justs kills faster.
A rifle with a bayonette? A little of both...
I pick ICBM.
I'm also amazed to be the first to say this thread is stupid beyond reason.
Swords are far better at dealing damage. True, against an unprepared human, a sword is overkill (the very reason why this debate exists) however consider an armored opponent, bullets are relatively easy to defend against (decent metal armor is near impervious to most man portable firearms) while a decent slash (esp. with large European swords) can punch through most armor in a few swings. Soft body armor, while fairly effective versus firearms, is laughable against a sword.
i think ill take a suitcase nuke over your icbm just because it is a little more easy to move around. but thats just me.

You were not the first to think it.
yes it is stupid but that does not mean it isnt fun!!!!!:D :D :D
How many bullets do you need to kill somebody at the sameQuote:

range as you would kil someone with a sword? Yes 1 bullet.
Sometimes just getting a head shot doesn't mean you got a kill. Maybe you just took the guy's jaw off or an ear. With a sword, a blow to the head (assuming no armor) is surely fatal due to crushing bone into the brain, severing of major arteries, etc.
A shot to the chest doesn't necessarily mean a perforated heart either. It is possible to miss killing someone by a fraction of a millimeter with a gun, just by not knowing exactly where the bullet will go (freak wind conditions have been known to spoil aim).
Let's assume you can goddamn aim ok? Many people cant evenQuote:

lift a sword nor handle it.
That would be like me saying let's assume you can use a damn sword.Quote:

Plus, if your using a gun in melee range, there is a good chance that it will end in both dying simultaneously.
Do note that many kinds of mortal wounds don't actually kill for a period of hours or days after being sustained. I know quite a few people who have survived gunshot wounds, often with few ill effects after recovery. Most sword wounds (intended to kill) cause far too much damage to tissues to survive without being maimed. However this just boils down to how bad you want the guy dead. If you have enough willpower, it is extremely difficult to sustain enough damage to keep you from finishing the job in melee combat.
Well, at the distance you stand to be able to use a sword
you can make a fatal wound with a gun.
You cant possible miss your target standing at a sword distance.
I think the fact that the gun was invented is enough evidence to show that it is a superior killing instrument. There was afterall a purpose to it's invention. I don't see many Katana wielding Samurai lining up on Iraq's border. There are however a considerable number of carbine wielding soldiers.
Yeah the sword is a graceful weapon and those that know how to use one (can't quite see the need in modern society) are very dangerous. But quite simply, the ability to hurtle lumps of metal into someone's chest at a rate of 600 or so per minute is a far more effective way of killing someone.
BTW, many people are duped by Hollywood into thinking that being hit by a bullet would send you flying back off of your feet. It wouldn't.
Makes sense to me:pQuote:

Why isn't squall's gunblade on that poll?;)
And why did you edit the title of this thread to include the words 'Video Game'? Much more fun before
I wasnt serious thank you very much.
The thread itself isnt really realistic anyway, i mean, wich gun
are whe talking about? The paintball shooter? The Deagle?
There's gotta be gold in there somewhere. Pirates are paranoid freaks. Check in their BUTTS.

Sorry, that's from Sea Lab 2021: Funniest show ever.
I love the Adult Swims On Cartoon Network. I'd wish they'd never end.:DZ
Yeah! I love Red Faction...a nice thing about the railgun: In the beginning where the big security vehicle is going across the ground and your on a catwalk: turn on invincible, weapons, and flight mode, go down, shoot the men with whatever the hell you have, arm the railgun, and shoot directly at the front of the vehicle. It just disappears. No explosion or nothing.Quote:

My point exactly.. Railguns are kewl..
In fact, any electrodynamically powered device is c00.
As for the railguns featured in games like Quake or the movie Eraser as opposed to real life railguns, the recoil will liberate your torso. And there isnt the decorative blue-streak of superheated air that follows the slug trail.
> The Gun or the Sword?
I'd rather a laser gun mounted on the sword. So you are far away, i shoot you, you die; you're close range, I slice you, you die.
I watch too much TV shows about ancient China that I've lost the urge to watch anymore sword fightings (but still fun to watch those special effects :)).
lasers...
if ur gonna go there, why not cook em with a microwave oven-gun!
Make sure your adversary stays still and rotates once every 30 seconds for 10 minutes / pound.
Strange nobody mentioned the BFG?
BFG Rulez Yar arzorzz!!!
