It looks like a pretty good book to me... I'd see if a store near you has it and thumb through - I like to try that before I put down any actual monet for something like that.
Why buy it when you can read it for free on The Linux Documentation Project page. http://www.tldp.org/LDP/linuxcookbook/html/index.html
If you want a good beginner's book then get this one. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...682534-0867328

I prefer books to websites. I'd much rather lay down in bed and read a well-light book, than be distracted whilst trying to read the book online with a monitor. That is, of course, only if it's worth reading in the first place, which you can tell from the that site.

I agree - however, it's nicer, for me at least, to spend 30 seconds downloading a public domain book than paying $10 for it at BN.
At my school, we have these laser printers at the labs that students can use for free, that are well-stocked with papers. I ended up printing out like 100 pages of a free book, and ended up just getting annoyed with the mess of papers so I bought the damn thing anyway, (at least, got it for Christmas).
I also prefer books to reading online but it's good to check the contents with that site if he's skeptical about dropping some hard-earned dough on it.
not sure: y/n
