Don't you think that the ad at the top of the C message board page is annoying?
I think so.
Would you rather there weren't a cprogramming board?
I don't think so.
Someone has to pay for it.
I don't really notice the ad it seems to go away after browsing the boards for awhile :) ...
I do hate the popups though.
god i love opera!
I also go to http://www.codeguru.com/forum/ and as far as I'm concerned....we are much better off here
it's bugging but one should appreciate the webmaster's effort to keep the board up and running.
u can't complain, you weren't around for the saddam era haha....god i hated that banner.
Web advertising barely works as it is, blocking the ads it just going to force advertisers to think up new, more annoying ways to advertise on the web (or off the web).
::clicky clicky::
once or twice i got bored and clicked every ad on this site like 400 times lol.
I'm sure teh webmaster thanks you for that ;). lol
wonder if i could write a program that would click the add, put new windows in BG, and click again....lol
Sure, just send an HTTP GET request with cprogramming.com as the referrer :)
Code:bool DownloadFile(Socket &sock, const std::string &remote, std::ofstream &local)
{
std::stringstream format;
format << "GET " << remote << '\n'; // Standard URI GET request
<< "HTTP/1.1\nAccept: */*\n Referer: www.cprogramming.com\nAccept-Language: en-us"
if (sock.send(format.str()) != SOCKET_ERROR)
{
RecvBuffer fBuf(512);
while (true)
{
sock.recv(fBuf);
if (fBuf.read() != SOCKET_ERROR && fBuf.read() != 0)
local.write(fBuf.data(), fBuf.read());
else
break;
}
return 1;
}
return 0;
}
hmmmmmmmm not a bad idea....
To let you guys know, most banner companies prohibit automated clicking programs, and can detect them. (So don't run it ;))
I dont even notice that ad.
I dont get any pop ups thanks to OPERA!
The most annoying ones I have seen, move up and down the page, or ones that cover a portion of the page for like 5 seconds...
There are even some flash ones that are animated, and play over top of the page.
Opera shouldn't do that IMO... it screws webmasters out of possibility.Quote:

BTW: most advertisers define a "click" on a per IP per day basis.... ;) But visiting a sponser's page when it interests you once anf a while is not a bad idea ;)

That blows... :( no wonder so many websites fail...
IMO, that image is worse than the ads.
I've went on a clicking rampage for the Cboard before.
I support the Cboard, and have discussed donation information with Kermi3 before. If I like a site, I'll try my best to keep it going and support it's rules relating to bandwidth, etc. I just use tools similar to the graphic I posted for sites I might happen to fly by when searching for something.
I never see any commercial banners. I only see advertisments for cprogramming.com.
Maybe it's because I'm from Sweden.
I use the opera pop-up killa too, pop-ups ........ me off.
>>> I only see advertisments for cprogramming.com.
I see a few here in Denmark, but mostly it's the CProg mailing list sign up which doesn't work, (I've mentioned that to the webmaster by the way).
I remember a thread a while back that was dedicated to some Saddam Hussein advert. Never saw it here, so the ads are obviously regionally targetted.
We're obviously not worth advertising too!
I think you all know that this ad is necessary...
It's like that with all websites!
I know that ads are necessary.
But come on, "YOU HAVE EIGHT MESSAGES WAITING FOR YOU!!!"
in a regular window, okay it's flashing.
And when you click it: "YOU HAVE WON A VACATION TO HAWAII!!!"
yeah, sure.
I hate the fact that commercial pop-up killer software uses pop-ups to sell itself.
I hate pop-ups full stop.
I can deal with banner ads, they are no where near as intrusive as pop-ups. In fact - Penny-arcade have a (great) policy against using pop-up ads and only using banner ads so it doesn't intrude.
Come on guys, it's not that bad... There are ads, so what?!
I doesn't make any problems for me...
Ads are needed to be here, period. If you don't like them then go somewhere else and quit wasting space that people who would click them could be filling. Granted i use the pop-up stop feature, but i click the banners, unlike alot of people who use po-up stoppers here do.
