pictures
The "PC performance test::test for those of us with dialups" was closed due to bandwidth with all them pictures. Maybe this would be a good reason to enable the [img] tags? Afterall, if we can upload a picture it's not as though we are stopped from posting innapropriate pictures. Enabling the [img] tags should help reduce bandwidth usage, right?
-
not really, if you post it its still being displayed by the server.
-
yeah but its not stored on this server, hence saving space and bandwitth
-
Yeah, I mean, if it's located on another server isn't it using that server's bandwidth instead of the cprogramming.com one to display the picture?
-
yes, thats what my last post said
-
-
I agree, allowing us to load images from other sites using the img tags will allow us to post pics without putting strain on the server.
We dont have many threads with picutres, and I really dont see the need to have pictures, but it wouldnt hurt. There are many sites which, are specifically used to host images.
-
Yeach, but they never listen to our suggestions...
-
But wouldn't it use both servers bandwidth? Think about it, the cprogramming server has to go get the file so it can be displayed when ever it gets to an <img src> tag. Is this true or not?
-
nope, the browser will download the image from the other server, not the cprog host
-
Not entirely sure because I'm certainly no expert on how these vBulletin boards work
-
Doesn't anyone find it ironic that the thread which was specifically created with dialup users in mind was shutdown for excessive bandwidth usage?
-
Lol, yes. But then again, that's why I posted in my last post though that even on dial-up I wasn't having any problems with 75% of the pictures.
-
you know people, you could have just as easily (if not more easily) typed out your scores instead of having to upload all of those pictures onto the server...
-
That's exactly what I was thinking DavidP.
Not to mention that it was a bragging thread.
There are several people on this message board who have computers that would put yours to shame. Why? They need them for their jobs. Some people need power that an allowance or working at McDonalds can't pay for.
I mean, the text bit would've done fine because as we witnessed Ride or Die edited a picture to show false results so it's not like pictures can't be edited to show unrealistic results.
