is it wrong to make $$ off stupid ppl as of pc repair
Define stupid people.
Do you mean morons who don't no how to plug the thing in or are you talking dumases (pronounced doo-moss-es) who stick their pen15 in the floppy drive (it happens at my school...) or just people who need very simple OS fixes, i.e. don't know how to get the pretty cards back up.
In any case, I think that they should be charged $$$ for wasting my time.
of course its all right to make $$ of stupid people, as long as you don't cheat them out of it. Remember, stupid people are still people, and you can make money of people, can't ya???
Amen
$$$ for services rendered is the point of rendering the service... or something.
i mean have you seen that cdw commersial wbout problems that arise in the it profession. i feel that there need to have schools with computer classes not OPTIONAL but REQUIRED.
You'll take our advantage away!
at least a typing class, like the one you skipped out ofQuote:

I feel they should REQUIRE a watered down version of those classes in high school.

I agree, but it won't help. There is a fairly large percentage of the population that simply can't deal with anything technical. I'm not saying they're stupid, far from it. They just have their talents in other areas. As to the original question, there is nothing at all wrong with charging a reasonable fee for fixing dumb errors. That's how a modern economy works. Division of labor and all that.
In my math class, we spent 20 min trying to teach some of the people how to graph a circle with their Ti-86 graphing calc.
I got it in 1 min
its not my typing its the fact i can't spell i was never very good its b/c of my failing school district.
School distericts are screwed up, they keep getting more money, and then it disapears somewhere. For some reason, our school budget got a lot bigger, then the lunch price goes up, the number of books are cut, not all the teachers have a computer in their room, we have a total of two security guards in the school, who are always in one spot, so you can go by them without a pass. At another school, there is a fat security guard who cant even walk around, and rides a golf cart thing around.
you think thats bad we have the long bulb light fixture that hold 4 but at any given time there are only 2 in there and the a\c doesn't work right. and a pride club that doesn't do ANYTHING. the school spent fundraising money on auto-flush toilets ok so thats SPENDING money on stupidity they did that b\c ppl wouldn't flush toilets. that was sick
The brand-new middle school i was at last year literally had parts that had no isulation. (I am in Norther New York State) The state did not give us the money to buy the needed insulation.
Oh, and it is law that the district buy mobil difibrilator things (they start the heart i think) but of course, the district is deep in debt and cant buy enough materials, so the defibrilators just give us more debt. Maybe not any more though, since i think the head of our school district may get on the city council. =P
I have one comment...
"Fred, i fixed my laptop but its still not working"
CHA-CHING
> "Fred, i fixed my laptop but its still not working"
Better yet...my most favorite one.
"Fred, I don't know anything about computers but all I know is I want a better one than everyone else." - I laughed so hard.
> don't know how to get the pretty cards back up.
I wouldn't be able to charge somebody for something like that. I'd show em how to do that. No, I wouldn't give out answers and fail my business or whatever, but I'd find a fine-line as to what gets charged alot for, or what gets charged small for. (Or maybe, charging for one thing, but throwing in one for free).
I mean, they just want to be entertained! They just want to have fun and play their games! I couldn't sit there and rip them off for that. :(
"Fred, i think i killed the motherboard...and the fatherboard too."
What really bugs me is stupid, rich people. They have the money to get really nice computers, peripherals, etc. while I have to try to make due with what I have. The best computers, software, etc. should go to those who can make the most use out of them.
yeah, but how are you gonna do that?
Situation: Computer store...
YOU: Hi, I'd like that new, super fast computer over there.
STORE: OK, that'll be $4000, thanks
YOU: I dont think you understand. I can make really good use of this computer
STORE: ...
Or the ever-popular one done by a reletive of my:
Uncle: "The cupholder wasnt strong enough. Will you replace it?"
Nephew: "What cupholder?"
Uncle: "The one that pops out of the computer"
Nephew: "The cd drive?"
Uncle: "What is a cd drive?"
This did happen to a relative of mine.
Here's how I'd like a similar situation to pan out.Quote:

Rich, dumb dude: Hi, I'd like the best computer money can buy.
Store: What are you going to use it for?
Rich, dumb dude: Word processing mostly. Also, for Minesweeper and maybe some web browsing.
Store: You mean you're not going to program or develop web pages or further your education?
Rich, dumb dude: Well. . .no.
Store: Do you know anything at all about how to maximize the capabilities of this caliber of computer?
Rich, dumb dude: Um. . .no. I have a wad of cash, though.
Store: Sorry, you're far to stupid to own a computer like this. Allow me to show you this lovely gem. It has a 200Mhz processor and 10Mb of memory—more than enough for all of your needs. However, it will still cost you just as much as that really nice computer over there. The extra money you'll be paying will go to supporting a young, promising computer science major who wishes to further his education.
Ah, what a world that would be. Socialism that favors the intelligent.
yes, it's called job security.
And, the stores have this thing about making a profit. wierd.

NOW THIS IS BETTER!
Store: Nice one my friend, exactly how much cash you got?
Store: I'll take what I can. Thank You
