Does anyone here who uses msn messenger, get any pop up advertisements? They are text based advertisments that pop up once in a while. I never got them with ME, but now I get them with XP. Does anyone know how to disable them?
Thanks

That sounds odd, I never get any advertisements with MSN.
Of course, I just have MSN for backup incase Yahoo!'s servers take a crap.
I don't get any trouble using _my_ version though..
Trillian in a Wine box. No popups here :D
Trillian's "ok". It has a nice concept, but for being a messenger, it's flash sucks. The smiley faces I was very disappointed with, and that was what made me quit using it.
I just use Yahoo!'s server anyways, and since I have broadband, I've only experienced one problem so far...which was a delay in connecting(small one, mind you).
Anyways Method...you've really got me, I've never had ANY popup problems EVER with stand alone software except, KaZaA at one time (minimize KaZaA and it throws a popup at you, etc.)
Well next time I get one, ill do a print screen and make a new thread about it.
Thanks
What about the smilies? Too few, or too many? I usually just turn them off entirely.
And when using Wine in desktop mode Trillian is nice because you only need one client for all four mjor messengers.

There hasn't been a messenger that had smiley's to match the charm of YM's. :)
Well I got another one today, Ive attatched it
Where I put IP address in the first line, acutally prints out your IP address
Oh, THAT...
Thats not MSN messenger.
Its Windows Messenger. It uses the netsend command, the command usually used by sysadmins to tell NT/2k/XP clients on a managed microsoft network about stuff that happens on the network.
Thats a new, evil form of spam that uses the netsend protocol.
It should probably not be legal, but it hasn't been challenged yet.
To turn it off, type "net stop messenger" into a commend prompt (Start->run...->cmd)
You can get a write up here.
I didn't realize that was out there in the field already...
As a Linux user I don't get NetBIOS messages, actually I've been oddly lucky in not getting nearly as much spam of any kind as some people claim they do.
Does anyone else find this morally reprehensible? Especially for a Norton Antivirus retailer. I mean Symantec is a respectable company.
I've half a mind to start making phone calls here.
