This was asked before.
EditPad
/edit, oh, and I never used your editor, and you don't have a poll!
Kate - Used most frequently.

Nano - for in console editting

Editplus - use while in windows.

EDXOR isn't really a C++ editor but I have had it for a long time so it is a favorite of mine. I just add .cpp to the end and it works nicely...EDXOR can be found at:
EDXOR
Oh and I didn't post a poll because I didn't know the most popular editors :-)
TextPad..all you ever need
Microsoft NotePad & WordPad, The Best there is!
(what the hell are all those other text editors!)
MS NOTEPAD, what are others for? A text editor (a simple) is to make write normal text.. programs don't make difference.. Notepad is all you need :)

It can only load a file of a certain size and has no real fetures..
Textpad has;
- Hex viewer
- It can handle huge files
- Spell checker
- Template library (for HTML,Java). And you can add more
- Customisable commands (so you can have a Compile or even Build command)
- A real fast way to search a folder of files for certain text. Great for .h file lookups
- File Comparison
- MDI
- Text formatting (transpose, change case etc....)
- Loads of stuff I cant remember
where do i get this?Quote:

vi seems a roman number (6) lol.. :P
You can get TextPad from ..www.textpad.com
moving this to general forum
//edit: btw, i use notepad or the dev-c++ ide
ConText, supports a variety of programming languages.
Also, don't forget to associate whatever program you use with .txt files.
Was this forum for the text editor you use to create C++ programs?? If so, I don't use notepad, I use Visual C++'s IDE.
NOTEPAD MUWAHAHAHAHAHAH
I use notepad, emacs and pico.
Linux - Emacs, and vi.
Windows - I use the editor that comes with turbo c++, mostly.
Windows - The Gun, notePad, VS.NET's IDE
Linux - pico
ConTEXT is a good one, free, supports many programming languages and very easy to use.
CodeWright is even better, but it is not free and I thought it was quite expensive. I use it at work and it really works great.
I used to use PFE, Programmers File Editor, also a good one.
Ok, can i use your toothbrush :)Quote:

Where exactly is the poll then? :p
Anyway... here's mine
For Unix: vi
For Win: Ultra Edit
TEXTPAD ALL THE WAY!
by the way that extra stuff that fordy couldn't remember includes the expansibility to code for any language you wish. It already has defintion and syntax files for almost every language out there (literally hundreds) and from what i read it's quite easy to tweak and make your own (i modified the java and html .syn files to makea javascript defintion file)
My text editor requires special hardware to work; this specific piece of hardware is, of course, a pencil sharpener.
notepad now~ ever touched pico a little, and want to get closer to emacs.
Emacs and VI or VIM
>Ok, can i use your toothbrush
I don't think you want to use it. ;)
A good C/C++ compiler or ANY other compiler should come with an in-built text editor, so it doesn't really matter which one you use...
My emacs editor uses default GNU bracking and spacing style. It matters. I can also execute various langauges within the editor, send/recieve email and go online (not that I've tried these features, but they are there). There are many rpm packages that enhance emacs.
When I'm not using the IDE editor of whatever product I'm using, or if I need to do anything clever, I use UltraEdit.

I don't agree. In my opinion a good code editor should first be easily used with a lot of compilers. At home I'm using ConTEXT which I have linked with several compilers for C, C++, Pascal, Java and assemblers. Second it should offer good facilities for developing code, things like keyword-highlighting and code-browsing are very usefull. An advantage of this is that you need to master just one code editor and don't need to mind very much about the compiler (from an editing point of view).
I understand your opinion.. but a text editor should be what it sounds like.. TEXT editor.. not HEX editor.. Hex editors & that other stuff could be a completely different application... If you need a text editor, get a TEXT editor, not a HEX/TEXT editor :P
Ugh...what are you talking about...so I should flush my favorite text editor because it gives me the option to view in hex.....Quote:

No, but a text editor should be what it sounds like.. text editor.. it may contain several other plug-ins or whatever they are, but it's main job is a TEXT editor.
Metapad (Windows)
