Secondary school until 12th grade (so, you're usually 17-18), and if you've passed enough classes, you get your diploma. During high school, you usually take some tests (SAT and ACT) so colleges have grounds to deny you admission because you suck. Usually, during your last year of high school, you apply to various schools and pick the one that best suits you (you cn afford, offers your major, etc). Then, it's off to college, if you decide to go. Some people choose community colleges first, which are smaller schools that are usually a jumping off point to a bigger college. There's more, but I don't feel like typing anymore...
to continue... after you get your degree from what we call "undergraduate" level, you can go on to "graduate" schools... which can and often are the same university that you got your undergrad degree at. At the "graduate" level, you can go on to get your masters, and then your PHD, or (Doctorate) degree. Only complete imbicils would go to anymore schooling than this... and it takes quite a dedicated person to go that far... usually a person with their Doctorate in something (excluding those who have skipped ahead) comes out with the ability to practice at the ripe age of about 26-27, I'd say.
