Me and no-one love DOS - so many useful tools ;)
where's whistler?? i love it even though its still only beta
Whistler was an early codename for XP.
ahh sorry no its not - XP is coming out soon and is aimed at a different part of the market - Whistler is still beta and is going to become .Net server (current name but marketing may change it again)
Changed it a little bit - ME here....
basilisk - I've never heard that before - do you have a link we could read more at?
I think you're mistaken Basilisk, but please prove me wrong. Where did you read this?
I've got ME...it's not my OS of CHOICE, though...
ah my best friend works at microsoft as a consultant specialising in XP and whistler and i used to work there too
got a link?
I hate being on the fence here fellas.. I had to vote for Linux just because I can't turn on myself... (see avatar)... but I'm a 98 fan, sadly. I can't play all my games on Linux.. dumb bastards won't port them all...
okay re: whistler afraid most of the info i have is from internal friends and not on teh web pages. However Xp is really only available in home and professional formats (and these came out of whistler home and professional betas accordingly) - home is just basically your standalone operating system while professional will be used by businesses as it can be added to a domain (the home version cannot be added to a domain)

Looking at their attributes etc they are really replacements for ME and maybe even windows NT workstation.
However, Whistler Advanced Server is still known as Whistler advanced server and has not yet been packaged with new name etc. Looking at my MSDN disks I have received XP professional and home (RC1) and also Windows Whistler Advanced Server betas at the same time. This is the version that i have been informed will become .Net server (however, who knows by the time release candidates are in place that may change again!) and will end up being the replacement for win2000.
Currently i am running the XP professional RC on my workstation and Whistler AS everywhere else and they are different products though the skin looks alike. (I should probably have been more accurate in the beginning and said whistler advanced server instead of just whistler)
>>ME
Doh... forgot that...
That's pretty interesting... Everything I heard said that MS was trying to replace 9x and 2K with XP... Maybe I heard wrong...
