Yep. RIP dmr, one of the most influential computer scientists to ever live. You will be missed. :(
a sad day in computer science indeed :(
That really is sad. Shame there was nothing on the BBC News. Lots on Steve Jobs, but not a mention of dmr?
Very sad indeed. Extremely intelligent computer scientist - genius in my book. Probably more than half the reason any of us have a job or anything to talk about on this forum.
This forum probably wouldn't even exist...Quote:

OMG! I didn't know!... :(
Rest in Peace dmr... I really wish I'd met the guy who built a programming language that influenced my entire life!... :frown:
Respect!...
Not the greatest of pioneers in my opinion, but nevertheless...
Rest in peace. At least you created something positive in the world.
I think I wrote more lines of text in C than in my native language. Maybe I am over-stretching it a bit, but if I remove stuff that I wrote during my schooling days I am definitely positive about it. So what can I say? RIP, Mr. Dennis M Ritchie.
PS, Wikipedia states he died 5 days ago!?! Isn't Twitter invented precisely because to keep us all up to date with everything that's going on?
RIP Dennis.
Dammit! :(
From ashes to ashes, dust to dust, into the earth with one big thrust! :D
Seriously, though: If it weren't for this thread, I might not have known so thanks kermit. I doubt I would find programming so interesting if it weren't for C given my history, so I owe DMR a lot myself.
I am now much more confident that this is not a hoax, but the reports are still sketchy, including concerning the exact date of his alleged passing. ZDNet's article quotes a statement by Jeong Kim, president of Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs, but I have not actually seen the statement published by Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs.Quote:
