Anything with .Net written on it is spyware.
heres how you turn it off
go to Tools->Options in the player tab you'll see a checkbox that says "Allow Internet sites to uniquely identify your player", make sure this is unchecked!

well then either you don't have spyware or you can't turn it off... who knows?
Media player 6 is definatly safe from any spyware.

8 definatly has the spyware fully enabled.

What is .NET, I've heard everything about it apart from what it actually is. Is it an alternative to Win32 API, some web integrated MS initiative?

yes, they do. That's one of the reasons they released XP-- starting in a about a year, many pieces of software people bought for XP will stop functioning. if they want it to continue working, they'll have to pay an annual license. Word, Excel, etc.... to name a few candidates.
Microsoft wants to know what software is running on your system, your passwords, your serial numbers, etc. so that they can file copyright infringement charges against people with software copies or duplicates.

you think thats the only windows thing with spyware?!? first of all the are hidden files on your computer with lists of every website you have gone to. then who knows what outlook does with your mail I mean think about it Bill Gates would probably do anything for money.
