Do you think we should have a forum for assembly language? (This was suggested by someone else in a different post).
Aye! [Democracy is fun].
Even though I don't know asm yet I'm planning on learning it and I thik this would be a good place to ask questions.
ARGX! This will be added to the FAQ so that we can whole-heartedly flame people for suggesting new forums, right? Or at least add in "Any suggestions for new forums will be deleted immediately"
There are many ASM sites out there, hell even flashdaddee has an ASM board. This board is for C and its offshoots ONLY. Good Lord is it that hard to remember?
Flaming?!
I'm all for flaming!
i'm for an asm forum. (though i'll just br able to read the posts)
I agree with Ken, no ASM in Cprog
But wasn't the c designed wholely around being useful to programmers?
An asm board would still fit in the spirit of c.
you want ASM? Find an ASM board...
uhhh.... let the flame war begin... :)Quote:

I want an Orangutan Maintenance board! Somewhere we can discuss the best deals on banana replacement and tranquilizer darts! The silent majority's kept quiet long enough!
LMAO... no no.. better:Quote:

The Board for Orphaned, Dwarf Blue Pigme Goats
10:1 that gets more posts than ASM... :D
ASM, for most C programmers, is an integral part of their code, and I think it would be helpful to have an ASM forum.Quote:

I agree with -Ken-, this is a cboard and that is why I love it. there are enough asm boards out there.
>>This will be added to the FAQ
please do
while i agree that there should be an assembly board, it's a lost cause. it's been asked many times before, and with the same response: NO. instead of wasting your energy convincing these people of the benefits of an asm board in a high population web site, look for another board.
Sure, IMHO if their is any other language comparable to C\C++ it is ASM, so I vote yes if for no other reason than for others to understand the inner working of a Computer :o
There are loads of ASM boards out there with already established members.......I find it hard to believe that anyone able to use ASM is not able to use Google to find these boards
This forum has a nice tight set of boards and the theme......well folks,................ its all in the name........
ROTFLMAOQuote:

if you want to understand the inner workings of a computer, buy a book, take a class, search the web... do not expect to find an enlightenment of ASM on here even if it does become a forum... it'll be like any other board... where there is help offered, but to grow and learn in it, you'll need to do some work on your own... don't be retarded, people. :rolleyes:
This is a great community and I have learnt alot about C from it. I feel everyone would benifit from an ASM board.
Benifits of an ASM board
* Help people learn ASM
* Help people with problems in ASM
* Help people with their problems in C-Embedded ASM
Disadvantages of an ASM board
* Flashdadee gets fewer members
Hmm...maybe all the people who don't want an ASM board just want flashdadee to have more members...?
Really, that was quite needless. ASM is a totally different language, even though C and ASM are related in certain facets. Find another board for it.Quote:

It's not "a totally different language", C is a way of simplifying ASM.
A compiler converts all the code into ASM and then assembles it.
...and then its turned to machine code....must I learn that too????Quote:

Anyway this is still no argument for us to have an ASM Board...
"C"Programming.com....its all in the name
Didn't you bring up a 'Java board' discussion in the past Sean?
When will you learn? ;) j/k
I agree with Ken, this is _C_programming.com, not CandASMprogramming.com. Theres bunches of ASM forums elsewere
And I dont see how wanting an ASM board makes you a stud ;)
We can make everyone happy by putting a link to an asm board on this site.
I won't be happy dammit! I want a link to a flying elephant board!
;)
Look in the directory of this site.....There doesnt seem to be any ASM liks there, but I believe you have the option to add one....Quote:

Brian - you forgot another disadvantage:
People crossposting to the C, C++, and ASM boards, saying: "How do I do inline assembly in C? What's mov?"
Just make the ASM board hidden to unregistered users.Quote:

To all guys who wanna have an asm-forum at Cprogramming.com:
why donīt you build your own asm-forum (asmprogramming.com) and let cprogramming.com be cprogramming.com.
klausi
As you can see from the poll, the majority wants an ASM board. So shut up you whiners.
I hate to say it, but I think the majority that says no hasn't voted yet. I can't speak for someone else, but I have a feeling that someone like Salem will vote no. Because this question has come up before and if I remember correctly his anwser was no back then( could be wrong). I think he will not participate here because it has been done before, and saying 'no' every time this sort question pops up gets boring.
C Programming is about programming in C and some of it's variants. ASM is no variant of C, so it shouldn't be added to C Programming.
I know that some programmers, especially those who do low level programming, are interested in assembly. But programmers who are involved in financial applications or applications in other fields, make use of other languages. Perhaps Ada, Perl, Haskell etc. So if ASM would be allowed to the board since the low level programmers use it a lot, the others have right to say for example: we want a Perl board since it's used a lot in server programming. And others would say: we want a Java board since in a lot of systems the higher level functions are implemented in Java.
To avoid those situations we should restrict to C and it's variants and be a board for C programming.
By the way, there are ASM forums, for example take a look at:
http://www.iainpb.co.uk/forums/upload/index.php
I think we should remove the game board then, because it is called CProgramming.com and not GameAndCProgramming.com
</sarcasm>
The games are in c/c++.
Yup...I dont vote in pointless "lets have am ASM board" polls any more.......Quote:

That also goes for "Lets have a Java Board", "Lets have a chat room" and other such polls that repeatedly crop up.......

Also, Let's have an IM feature, is there a God?, C or C++?, is MS evil?, etc..., etc....
there should be one... The people in this board are so ignorant( Even i am) .. May be an ASM board would improve it..
Ignorant!??!Quote:

I dont think a working knowledge of ASM would normally raise a person from the mental level of a caveman...but hell.....why not?
There are some people here that realy know their stuff.
Like Salem, Quzah, Adrianxw, Nvoigt, Stoned Coder, Fordy, Sorensen ... and this list goes on and on(Do not be offended if I didn't mention you). Others are here to learn C
I think it is a very big mistake to say that the people here are ignorant
Got that right. Maybe you should take a closer look at your own sigQuote:
