    telnet/ftp

has anybody tried telnet/ftp via a proxy server to a remote machine???

i telnet to remote machine by telnet/ftp to the proxy server and then telnet to the remote machine from that proxy server.

is there some other way out so that i can directly telnet/ftp to the remote machine ???

    Sure...
It's called SOCKS 4 / 5 (version 4 and 5), the idea is simple the SOCKS server is used as a bouncer for TCP and UDP connections (version 4 supports only TCP).

But here is the tricky part, you will need an application that supports this protocol, I suggest you use PuTTy for telnet, and I'm sure there are FTP clients out there that support this feature as well.

    Good luck, hope this helps.
