    Authentication issue

I'm Trying to develop a Windows based tool to connect to a Telecom switch that I work with.... the problem is that I have no clue what kind of authentication I have on the other side.... any ideas on how to figure that out ????
I belive it's FTP but I'm not shure... how can I discover this ???

get another program which talks to the switch. Then sniff the packets that get sent back and forth.
