How to connect a tower to a laptop

As the title says. I have a tower from a desktop with 15gb capacity on it. I want to connect it to my laptop computer and be able to use the HD on the tower as a storage area, switching in between whenever I want. Maybe i could even put linux on the tower drive. Is this possible and how would I go about doing so.
    Thanks.

take a look at NFS(Network file system), or in the case of windows, you might want to check "mounting network drives".
there used to be something here, but not anymore

No they don't have anything between them. That is what i was trying to clarify. Will i be needing an ethernet cable to hook them up. I really only want to use the towers hard drive for storage and maybe run linux off of it.
    Thanks for replying.

well in case you dont want to network but want to just pull the hdd out of the tower and want to connect it to the laptop you can use devices such as
    http://www.xpcgear.com/ue650hhdcase.html
which will allow you to use an hard disk as an external storage... through USB...

That looks interesting. I don't think my girl wants me to take it apart though. I just want to attach it to my laptop as is, and access the harddrive from there.

well what you can do is set up a network between them and share the drives.. But if you want the laptop to boot from the tower hdd without removing it.... i am not sure how this can be done...... You can boot OS from a network but dosent look like you want to do it..

Running linux from a network share on another computer is possible, but it's not exactly a snap to set up.

As for connecting the two together, don't forget you'll need a crossover RJ45 cable as opposed to a straight cable if you want to connect the two directly together not using a hub/switch.

Once you've got it going then you'll need to configure either NFS or File & Print Sharing depending on whether you're using *nix or Windows
