High resolution clock.

I was wondering if anyone had any high resolution clock resources laying around? API explenation and maybe some tutorial.

Has a quite high resolution. Still not high enough for a MIDI timer, probably - look into ALSA for that.

HPET is the best you can get in terms of resolution, but your mainboard has to have the chip (newer ones does in most cases)
