    Linux X server installation

    Hi,
I am new to Linux. I am trying to install linux on my machine and I am unable to configure the linux X-server. What happens is that when I install RedHat Linux Version 6, the auto-probe detects my monitor (Samtron 55E, Non-Interlaced 1024x768@75hz, horizontal sync -30-61 KHz vertical sync -50-120 Hz) and automatically configures the display settings but when I try to install RH 7.0, even though it detects the correct settings, it is unable to configure the correct display settings. I have tried all the probable combinations within the range, but nothing seems to be working. Please Help.
    Thanks a lot.
    A Linux Enthusiast.

if you want to install redhat 7.x, download 7.2. 7.0 is notoriously sketchy. If you've honestly tried everything within the range, i don't know what to tell you other that try the VESA or standard SVGA options..

and if you are a C/C++ programmer don't install the RedHat gcc compiler 2.96...IT'S BUGGY. install 2.95 or 3.02 though i've heard to even stay away from 3.02 (i've never had a problem)...
