    ok, this is more about installing linux. I have Linux SuSE and every time I try to install it, it freezes on an "analyzing" screen after it asks for my name username and password. Does anyone know how to fix this???

    You reach the point of entering username and password. I think it's not kernel reason.
    slackware 10.0; kernel 2.6.7
    gcc 3.4.0; glibc 2.3.2; vim editor
    migrating to freebsd 5.4
