I like trackballs better than mice, but are there any drivers for them in linux?
Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Most trackballs should be detected as regular mice...
As a general rule, do all mice put out a generic signal?
Well most mice will work as a regular mouse with 2 buttons using generic mouse drivers, but I believe there are some that aren't _exactly_ the same. For example, I don't believe my opitcal intellimouse explorer would work properly using only generic drivers, but my memory of troubleshooting my mouse under linux is dim.Originally posted by windoze victim

If it plugs into the ps/2 mouse connector, it should be detected as a regular mouse and work fine. My logitech optical wheel mouse works fine with the generic driver under RH 8.0.
Serial port mice/pointing devices are more problematic. You should check supported hardware for the distro and version of linux that you intend to install.
Thanks people.
