programming linux with gcc, emacs, and makefiles

Hey all,

I've always used KDevelop to do programming linux, but I want to start messing around with Allegro. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work in KDevelop (syntax errors in the header files?!), yet they work when I compile via the command line.

BUT I need to know how to write Makefiles so I can work with multi-file programs.

Can someone explain how or give a link to a site explaining how to write Makefiles?

Much thanks!
