What distribution of Linux are you using? You will have to manually set up your video/monitor hardware in your system. Only after this can you use your Graphical User Interface. The way you set up your hardware settings depends on the distribution you use. If you are using Redhat, type:
    startx -- -bpp 8
and see if you got a GUI, if there were some errors displayed, you need to set up manually.

If you did the workstation install then X-Windows is already installed. Just type startx at the command prompt and it will start the GUI interface. If you want it to boot up in a GUI (runlevel 5) then you need to edit the /etc/inittab file and change the line that says

    id:3:initdefault:

    to

    id:5:initdefault:

That will change you to start in runlevel 5.

i did do that and it crashed. i think 6.0 is to primitive for my video card and monitor since they are fairly new. Im gonna go ahead and install 8.0

Yeah, just burn them as disc images...you only need the first 3 for the install though, the last two are just source RPMs.

I play unreal tournament 2003 all the time on Linux. I used to play Quake 3 and Wolfenstein as well, but now I just play ut2k3. A fair amount of games will work in Linux.
