Solaris, at least for x86, sucks. You don't want to use that...
Solaris 8 is one of the most stable OS's there is. Don't know how stable = sucks.

listen, if all software was open source and free, all of us developers would be without a job! most of us have families, who needs that money! i agree that companies like microsoft charge way to much for their software, but still, open source is great i agree, but i think its over rated in some cases, if windows, for example was free, hundreds of people would loose their jobs, etc.
i concur. it would actually be in the millions of people who wouldn't have jobs.Originally posted by eh?

i personally like the options for alternative choices with computers
Competition is good because that way you have more than one single company creating all of the solutions for the computer industry. If you look at computer science as a field of study where you can learn anything and come up with an idea, than it doesn't make sense that only one software architecture should exist. In history however, it's always been the case that one individual or company has initially gained a monopoly of a major industry such as the, railroad, electricity, telegraph, phone, petroliem, and now computer idustry. I think that one day some of the other contries of the world might build an OS (and not just a clone).
competition is good, as long as each operating system could comply to a certian standard, so that all software would be compatible with every thing.
or they could just emulate each otherOriginally posted by Unregistered
