    my linux machine short lived

    I was impressed with red hat linux until this happened

    "According to /var/run/gdm.pid , gdm was already running (xxx) but seems to have been murdered mysteriously.

    i cant log into gnome, in text-mode this message keep popping up. I rm the file thinking it will help , but it didnt. so . .

    i need some help here expert . .

    im running a redhat linux 7.0

    your first problem is that you're running gnome....
    can you remember if you changed any conf files as root before this happened? if you did which one?...also how much disk space do you have left?

    well all sorted i ran xconfigurator reconfigure gnome again and it works.

    hey how do i upgrade to linux 7.3? simple to follow help pages . .

    yeah, if you can install Linux, it's extremely easy...just choose upgrade existing Linux system and wait...if you need it, there is some info on the redhat home page...
