    dual socket..?

I wonder what 16-cores, dual socket mean. Is it 8+8 cores or 16+16 cores?

    Thanks!

Do you have reference to where you saw this information?

Google "16-cores, dual socket" shows up plenty of information to be getting on with.
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

If that was taken from the description of a computer somewhere, then I would guess that it comes with a single AMD Opteron 6247, but the motherboard has two CPU sockets.

Just a stab in the dark.
